Responding to a request for information from the New York Gaming Commission for up to three land-based licenses, the company—which is to list in the US—combining with Jason Ader-led special purpose acquisition company (SPAC)—26 Capital—will respond.
Authorised under a 2013 referendum vote also allowing the construction of the state's four upstate casinos, these licences, all for casinos in the southern portion of the state, near New York City, were approved.
In October, the New York Gaming Commission asked for information on these licenses in order to get comments from possible licensees as well as anyone who would be impacted by the opening of these casinos. December 10 is RFI closing day.
The Commission said it aimed to ascertain the extent and scope of any possible casino projects, the worth of a gaming licence, and the best procedure for deciding who should get one.
The information request comes despite Spectrum Gaming Group's January warning that expansion of casinos downstate may cause upstate facilities shutdown or personnel reduction due to rising competition.
Apart from its response to the demand, Okada Manila International also disclosed that it would use UE Resorts International as its corporate name, therefore reflecting its parent firm Universal Entertainment.
The name was selected, reportedly, "to better reflect the corporation's expansion plans in Asia and other countries around the world, including the US."
"The change to UE Resorts International marks another turning point for our company," president Byron Yip remarked. "The company continues to show it's taking advantage of its attractive destination in one of the fastest-growing gaming markets in the world to stimulate revenue while providing its guests outstanding experiences."
Chief executive Jun Fujimoto of Universal Entertainment said the name change marked the next phase in a strategy beginning with the SPAC combo.
"It was fitting to change the name as the company develops," Fujimoto remarked. "Our intentions went well beyond our current collaboration with Jason Ader and 26 Capital.
"We have decided to rename the company Okada Manila International UE Resorts International in order to concentrate our combined efforts for the future expansion of Okada Manila and our aspirations to establish a presence in other countries around the world."
Approved by regulator PAGCOR to commence online gaming earlier this year, the Okada Manila resort in the Philippines will remain under the same identity.
